Snow Day

Well the one thing I can say I love about winter is the occasional snow days.  They seem to come up at the perfect time (right in the middle of the week!)

So what did I do with my day home?

So many days I get up in the morning and think of all the things I could get done if I didn't have to go to work, here was a day that I didn't have to go to work, so I better get a lot done.

Besides the usual cleaning that seems to fill my days I did get to work on a couple craft projects too.

I got half of the cans done for our girlfriend Valentine party coming up in a couple of weeks, along with finishing my projects for Work in Progress and getting them all emailed, and working on my felt project design.

 

Zach and I also went outside to shovel in the snow - although Zach thinks he can wear shorts ALL THE TIME!

and the dog just loved playing in the snow

My 6 projects 

These are projects I am working on or projects I have recently completed for Work in Progress kits.  (Once those are posted in the gallery I will post them here)

1.  Heidi Swapp mirror album - I had a blast working with this album and adding pages to it.  With Valentine's Day so close and lots of Valentine's papers I chose a Heart theme by using quotes with the words heart in them like Have a strong mind and a soft heart

2.  A layout about my dad - since my kids were young when he died (Chelsea 8 and Zach 4), I wanted to share with them some of those little details that they might have never known.

3.  Girlfriends Valentine's -  Every year a friend of mine has a girlfriend Valentine party where we all bring "Valentine's" for each other.  Most of the time they are hand made items, and they are always creative which makes it fun when you are working on your project.  So far I have a clear paint can to decorate,these pendants I got and something I'm making with felt.

4.  After completing the Project 365 last year I plan to continue that again this year, and besides for keeping track of it here and in this mini, I want to come up with another creative way to scrapbook the year.

5.  With my card club we made these adorable Valentine's which I plan on duplicating.

6.  I've got some Karen Russell kits in the works.  Which I plan to post when completed!

Oh there is so much more too, and maybe that's why my word for the year is FOCUS - because I need to focus on these projects and get them completed and posted!

The morning after

The Bachelor...

Well last night I had stamp club so I was not home for the beginning of Bachelor, which usually works out pretty good because then I can just fast forward through all the commercials, and some of what I think are the more boring parts!

I haven't been a fan of Nicky's from the beginning.  While she is beautiful, she has no personality and is pretty much stuck on how great she looks.  And the date with Stephanie... I don't know that whole thing just seemed awkward?  OMG the General Hospital date was tragic, really!  The girls were all so emotional, and after Reading Chris Harrison's blog, it was worse than what we saw...

However the date with Molly I thought was cute and even put Molly in my top 3, although Naomi, I'm still not sold on?

Monday Monday

Its back to Monday after a quiet, but busy weekend.  I'm ready to get back to the structured week. And while I'm glad for what I got accomplished, there is always so much more to do!  So I will take this week and continue to finish things on my list.

Joel and I went out to a new restaurant in town on Saturday called the Corkscrew Saloon.  We have heard wonderful reviews of it, and tried to go before Chelsea went back to Kent, but there was always such a long wait, we had never gotten in.  The food and service lived up to its reviews and we definitely plan to go back again!

Last night I finished The lucky one by Nicholas Sparks, and as with most of Sparks books, I enjoyed it.

 

Tonight is card club for Rose and I and The Bachelor returns for another Monday night of dating...

Sunday plans

Had a great day yesterday, in terms of getting things done and plan on continuing that today.  

We tried to go out to see Shawn race yesterday in Akron, but were unable to find parking in Akron!  Why they would close off streets and not have parking areas available is ridiculous!  Apparently they had several events going on at the same time.  Didn't anyone think of the parking situation?  So I ended up turning around and going home.  Shawn did good for his first time back racing in a year (22.8 in the 200) although he was disappointed in himself, since his best time ever was 22.3.   I wish we could have seen him.

Although I didn't go straight home...

I made a stop at Perfectly Charming since there was a parking spot just waiting for me right in front of the store.  I had to stop at Border's since my book light wasn't working again and then it was time to get home and get some cleaning and scrapping done.

My accomplishments included getting the kitchen and dinning room floors washed, half my thank-you's done and some time to play with my Work in Progress February kit, among other things and checking out a new restaurant in town, the Corkscrew Saloon with Joel (which was awesome!)  I'd call that a good day!

So what are the plans for today?  More of the same, except hopefully with more scrapping and less cleaning.

A year later

Today my nephew will run again in a competition for the first time since almost one year ago when he hurt his leg and found out he would need surgery!  To see him run is just a sight to be seen and I plan on going to see him today in a race in Akron. Hopefully I can get some good pictures of him?

Also today I have created a list of things I need to tackle.  Some much needed cleaning, scrapping and that dreaded task of removing photos and more from my computer to DVD so I can get it fixed and of course finishing up the Thank you's for the toy drive.  I hope to cross lots off my list today!

Yesterday my mom and I visited Trish (which is always a treat) and then went out to Kent to hang out with Chel for a few hours.  We took out her Obama shirt which Trish picked up while in Washington DC, a laptop and some insurance forms.  Then we also went to lunch and out to Chapel Hill Mall.

   

When I returned I didn't even get to come in the house since Zach had been waiting on my arrival and had plans with friends (which included me picking of friend and dropping them off at another air soft battle)

Finding creative time

I still don't have a PC which leaves me with no printer, and I'm not used to that.  My computer has a virus and I get to bring it home, remove what I want and take it back to have the entire thing wiped clean and begin again.  It will probably be a good thing, since I'm sure there is a lot of unnecessary things that have accumulated over the years, but the time alone it's going to take is not something I look forward to.  And I guess I am lucky that I have the opportunity to remove pictures and such before losing everything, but...

Working on my Project 365 again this year, I love looking back at 2008 and remembering little details by the picture that I took.  The other day I took this picture, really by accident and was pleasantly surprised at how I got myself and the house in the shot.

With Chelsea back at Kent and Zach (after snow days and testing days) back to a normal school week, I can finally get back to some creative time for myself.  Although it is easier to find time because the kids are older, I was out of my usual routine and didn't seem to accomplish much.

Last week I picked up my Work in Progress kit from Trish and had to get the Valentine Project kit also!  This week I've found some time to play with both!

Reality television

Why is it I get sucked into this reality television?  For the most part I don't watch a lot of television.  In fact there are only a few shows I've enjoyed over the years.  Some which have ended too soon (Studio 60) and some that I have lost interest in from time to time (Grey's Anatomy).  Although right now I'm probably one of the few that is enjoying the Denny/Izzy storyline of Grey's.  And of course there is Lost, which will be back with its new season TOMORROW!!

Then there are the reality television shows most of which I catch from time to time, but nothing I plan my day around.  With the exception of The Bachelor and Biggest Loser for some reason, especially this year, I have been drawn to these shows.  The Bachelor I knew I wanted to see, especially with Jason, who was left standing alone in the Bachelorette, although looks like so was Jessie...

So who do I hope will make it to the end in Bachelor?  Right now my favorites are Jillian and Melissa, though there are several others that I still like as well.  But I think Megan needs to go and I was thrilled that Erica did go.  I love Chris Harrison and his blog has been a fun addition to the recaps of each episode.

Reading in 2009

...so I finished  The Middle Place by Kelly Corrigan and I have to say from the moment I started reading this book it took me back to my teenage years and brought back memories from my own childhood.  Early on she talks about Wacky Packages stickers (like shot wheels and cap'n crud) I had notebooks covered in these humorous stickers, each one funnier than the next.  And also the T-shirts in which the collar was cut off at just the right flashdance angle.... too funny!

I found the book to be well written, with enough humor to help you get through the sadness that was present throughout the book.  It was divided into past and present every other chapter, which made the book more enjoyable for me.  In fact this was the 2nd book of my 2009 readings that was written the same way.  The first was Out stealing horses.

This has me at 2 books in just over two weeks for the start of my 50+ books in 2009. Technically I need to read just over 4 books a month to reach my goal, so we'll see how that goes?

Next will be either finishing Kentucky Rich by Fern Michaels or starting the latest Nicholas Sparks that I picked up?

Joel and I watched Burn after reading the other night and while the movie itself is different.  I just loved the roles that Brad Pitt and George Clooney played.  I don't think I ever saw Brad Pitt in this type of role, it kept me laughing the entire movie.

Break is over

Yesterday Chelsea and I met my mother and went to see Marley and me.  I had read the book back when it came out and loved it, and I wasn't too sure I wanted to see the movie, since they never seem to be as good as the book.  But I thought it would be a good choice for my mom since she loves dogs.  Turned out the movie was good - true to the book, and my mom and I loved it.  Chelsea had already seen it and was glad to see it again and Zach was hanging out over his friends and didn't care to see the movie.  

We then headed back home to finish picking up groceries and get ready to go to dinner since it was Chelsea's last night home on break.  We tried going to a new restaurant but the wait was so long and it was already 8pm, so we decided to head over to Ruby Tuesday's.

Chel took my camera and just kept taking pictures all night long.  She got some cute ones of Zach that I love even though he sure could use a hair cut!

 

This morning Chelsea and Joel went to work.  After work Zach headed to a sleepover at his cousins and Chelsea and I headed out to Kent to get her moved back in.  We unloaded boxes from both our cars and then went to lunch and over to check out the Kent State Women's basketball game.  They ended up winning in overtime...

So now I'm home with me time.  I can either clean the house, read a book or work on some scrapbooking projects?  Maybe some of each???
