Saturday started the beginning of Week 2. . . for most kids.
Let me rewind and catch everyone up ;
This week has been a week full of tears, laughter, joy, homesickness, positive attitude and A LOT of negative attitude. Which isn't exactly my favorite. Our schedule for our day starts with an hour morning walk followed by breakfast then we go into our "block system" which is the same time but different activity every day. They have 2 blocks full of activity like a sport [kickball, soccer, basketball] or they have classes in the gym [Spinning, Yoga and Weight Training]. Then lunch, followed by another 2 blocks of activities until dinner followed by another 2. Which just by typing that I realize that it's a lot of physical activity and exercise for a sedentary child but some of them don't have that positive attitude that pushes them to work hard... they have the "i don't care how overweight I am, I hate it here and am not going to do anything while i'm here" attitude... which is starting to upset me more and more... Being in their situation, I would of DIED for a summer of this to lose weight and they don't realize how lucky they are. Yes it is 3, 6 or 9 weeks away from home BUT this camp isn't cheap and your parents made it work for you to be here to change your life for the better.
Hopefully going further into week 2 they will start to have more fun, the homesickness will fade away and they will start to enjoy activities. They are all wonderful girls who I already share a close bond with and I want to see them succeed.
Today is Sunday which means they can call home. Listening to some of them talk to their parents made me tear up.. They seemed so happy to be here, parents were so happy that they were loosing so much weight and one girl even asked if she could change her stay here from 3 weeks to 6 weeks and they said Yes!
Last week we did a "battle of the bunks" challenge which went on every night. One being song challenge and flag, one being dodgeball and one being jeopardy! =) We won the first night but the 2nd and 3rd, we kind of lost it. The Sun Dogs [boys team] ended up taking the trophy and being good sports about winning! They now are allowed to be first to every meal because they won first place! Wish I was them :)
This week is our grocery and dine out challenge! Applebees and grocery shopping in Iowa, should be fun! :)
